How to start or deepen your spiritual life

If you’re looking to begin or deepen your spiritual journey, it helps to start small, just like building any new habit. You don’t have to have it all figured out to begin. What matters most is creating space for God in your day.

Begin by listening. Set aside just 5 quiet minutes in the morning. Sit in silence, open your heart, and simply say: “Speak, Lord, I’m listening.” This can be the beginning of a conversation with God that grows over time.

Revisit your roots. Think about the spiritual traditions you grew up with, lighting a candle, praying the rosary, attending Mass, or crossing yourself when passing a church. These small rituals carry meaning and memory. Bring them back with intention.

Read one verse a day. The Bible or a devotional can offer wisdom, especially if you’re feeling lost or unsure. Apps like Laudate or Hallow offer daily prayers and reflections rooted in Catholic tradition. Let God’s word meet you where you are.

Find spiritual community. Whether it’s at your parish, a women’s group, or even an online prayer circle, walking with others strengthens your faith. Faith was never meant to be a solo journey. We also invite you to join the Vida Noble community and newsletter. It’s a space created just for you, to share stories, ask questions, grow in faith, and support each other. You’ll get gentle reminders, tools to live with intention, and updates on new resources to help you along the way.

Talk to God like a friend. There is no right or wrong way to pray. Tell Him about your fears, joys, hopes, and worries. Trust that He hears you.

Your spiritual life doesn’t have to be perfect, it just has to be yours. Whether you’re returning after a long absence or just beginning to explore your faith, there’s always room at the table.

What if I’m already strong in my faith?

If you already attend Mass regularly, pray daily, and feel close to God, thank you and bless you. Your light is needed. Walking closely with God also means becoming a living reflection of His love. Not just believing in the way, but being the way.

Ask yourself:

  • How can I make others feel seen, safe, and supported in my presence?
  • Who around me might be struggling silently, and how can I gently reach out?
  • Is my faith a quiet comfort, or a daily call to serve, forgive, and grow?

Being “the way” is not about preaching, it’s about embodying Christ’s love with humility, joy, and courage. It’s listening more than speaking, forgiving more than judging, and serving without needing to be seen.

Try this:

  • Invite someone to church who hasn’t been in a while
  • Offer to pray for someone, even if they didn’t ask
  • Share your testimony with your children, your comadre, or your neighbor
  • Reflect on how your words and actions reflect God’s peace

Faith is a gift. Living it out is our calling.
